When you put yourself last you end up in a place where you do not belong.
Every conversation you have. Every conversation you don’t have. Every time you choose to sit back and have a spectator viewpoint you are let go of the steering wheel and just drifting. Whichever random situation you find yourself in is due to somebody elses doing, their suggestion or their recommendation. This goes on for some time, then, all of the sudden you feel uneasy. You feel overwhelmed. Your body is telling you something important but you don’t want to listen. You are in a place that does not align with your needs or beliefs. You begin to lose yourself – you don’t know who you are.
It is one thing to be a product of your environment but another to be a victim of your environment.
Not taking the lead and holding back is many times WORSE than making a bad decision. If you are too concerned with making mistakes you will never speak up and you will never action anything.
You become bitter and envious about those who have who take action. Time races by with nothing getting any better. You have accepted your circumstances and lost track of what you wanted your life to be.
You no longer enjoy weekends like you once did. Your social get togethers become few and far between. You don’t want to hear about how well others are doing or how happy they are. You prefer to isolate yourself than be confronted about your own situation.
Days, weeks and months go by this way. One day a friend suggests that maybe it may help for you to set some goals… You roll your eyes and tell them that goal-setting in BS. You are not interested. You just revert to your cliché , ‘Everything will work out in the end.’ Or at least you hope it will.
When will things change? What will have to happen? Does somebody have to die? Do you need to lose your job? Would you need to get terminally ill? Hit rock bottom?
You are a kind, generous, selfless, friend and great listener. You are also an angry, misunderstood, unhappy and miserable person.
As confronting as it may be. Everybody has moments in their life where they need some re-calibration, some new direction or support. A need for some strategy to keep you energised or to get you back on track – the right track.
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.”
– Albert Einstein
Maybe it’s time you did something different.
